Entry control and attendance for colleges, schools and hostels
Hostel entry lanes, campus vehicle gates and staff attendance, planned around students, visitors and peak hours.
In short: campuses need fast, controlled entry at peak hours, a record of who entered hostels and when, and reliable staff attendance. Swing or flap barrier lanes with face recognition handle students; boom barriers handle vehicles.
Reference installation: IIT Madras hostels
Smart Bio Nexus installed eSSL SB-ES-3216 and SB-ES-3216-2 swing barriers, SB-TL-129 P-gates and eSSL boom barriers across all 14 student hostels at IIT Madras, Chennai (August to October 2026), as the installation partner for Core Technologies, Karnataka. See the IIT Madras project with photos and videos.
What we usually install on campuses

- Flap barriers for high-footfall lobbies and libraries. See flap barriers.
- Face recognition terminals for hands-free student and staff entry. See face terminals.
- Boom barriers for campus and hostel vehicle gates. See boom barriers.
- Staff attendance for teaching and non-teaching staff, with reports for payroll. See biometric attendance.
- CCTV for gates, corridors and common areas. See CCTV installation.
- WhatsApp alerts to parents when students punch IN or OUT, late-return alerts, warden summaries and hostel fee reminders with Vaasal by Smart Bio Nexus.
How a project runs
- Site survey: we walk the entrances, check cable routes, power, network and lighting.
- Plan and quotation: an itemised quote listing devices, software, cabling and civil work.
- Installation: mounting, wiring, device setup and software configuration.
- Handover and training: enrolment, reports and admin training for your team.
- Support and AMC: chargeable on-site service and annual maintenance contracts.
Common questions
Can hostel entry be limited to residents?
Yes. Lanes open only for enrolled faces or cards, and the software keeps a record of each entry and exit.
What about visitors and parents?
A staffed desk or a separate wide gate handles visitors, while residents use the automatic lanes.
Can student attendance be taken with biometrics?
Yes, with face or fingerprint devices in classrooms or at building entrances. The right setup depends on class sizes and how you use the reports.
